Homeschool Programs, Ages 5-7, 8-12, 12-16

Homeschooled students are of course welcome to attend any of our after-school classes, but the Art Center also offers dedicated homeschool fine arts classes, a new music education course and private music lessons for students free during the early part of the day. The Center is an approved vendor and has long-standing contracts with all the major charter schools in the area, making it easy for parents to have art classes or music lessons paid for by their school districts. We can also customize classes or field trips for groups of 5 or more.

Fine Arts classes (Ages 5-7, 8-12, 13-16)
As with our after school fine arts course, students attend this 90-minute class once a week and are introduced to all media, such as: Sketching, Watercolor, Acrylics, Charcoals, Pastels, Clay Sculpture, etc. They learn different techniques, application of many media and understand the tools of the arts. These are school-year-round programs and can be started at any time during the academic year. Our nurturing, experienced teachers and small class size give homeschooled students a fun and creative group experience.

Taught by a private Art Center music teacher, Derek Martinez, this course introduces students to the kind of early music education children receive in Europe. Through games and other fun activities, students are taught piano keys, singing, percussion, to read music--the basics needed to successfully move on to an instrument. (Please note many of our instructors are also available early in the day to provide private 30-minute music lessons to home-schooled students, and the Center offers lessons in piano, guitar, bass, electric guitar, drum, saxophone, voice, song-writing, flute and recorder. See our music page for more information.)

Pictured right: To coincide with "Australia Day" (January 26), the Music Education class crafted their own didgeridoos using wrapping paper tubes. They were encouraged to decorate their instruments with their interpretations of Aboriginal designs, using Australian animals and their imagination as inspiration.
